Jackhammers and Survival Mode

For almost three years, I’ve lived with the constant hum of construction — jackhammering, back-up beeping, industrial elevators, parking garage renovations, random apartment renovations, even the occasional night shift of drills that start just hours after the daytime ones stopped. It’s left my body in a state of survival mode, and honestly? I haven’t figured out how to fix it. Maybe sometimes you can’t. Maybe there isn’t an easy answer. That’s why this episode of The Ouch Couch isn’t about quick solutions — it’s about naming the toll, sitting with the reality, and building community with others who get it. Because sometimes the most healing thing isn’t advice — it’s knowing you’re not alone in the noise.
