Our guest for this episode was Michael Zanders who has his bachelors, masters and PhD in music therapy and he is currently a professor at Temple University. Michael has presented extensively regionally, nationally and internationally at conferences and workshops, and has published both within the music therapy and counseling/psychotherapy fields.
Music can help soothe our sadness, calm us, motivate us, inspire us and it is a language in and of itself. It has been used for pain management, emotional well-being, improving memory, social skills, physical health and so much more. Through harmony, rhythm, and sounds, we can express ourselves through the act of making music or identifying the music or lyrics that express ourselves more deeply. In the words of Michael, you "need to hear yourself to be yourself" and perhaps heal yourself. I hope you enjoy the episode!
